The first 500 years of the Ancient Rome government, the city was a republic, meaning that no one had the power to tell everyone what to do. In the next 500 years, Rome became and Empire, meaning that they had an Emperor as their leader. Sometimes the people would think of the Emperor as a god. The first Roman emperor was Caesar Augustus. He had many names that he could be called, one being Octavius, but he mainly got called Augustus. He was the adopted heir of Julius Caesar.
Julius Caesar- Julius Caesar helped make the Roman empire as big as it is now. He became very strong and powerful along with his army that he had. Once Caesar had defeated Pompey The Great, in a civil war, the Roman Senate made him the Dictator of Rome. People didn't like Caesar being a Dictator and wished they could have the republic system back. In 44 BC, Marcus Brutus assassinated Caesar. Ocatvius took Caesar's place and became the first Emperor of a new Roman Empire.
Strong Emperors- These emperors were the much better emperors of Rome.
Caesar Augustus- Augustus was the first emperor and set a good example for emperors in the future. Augustus created a standing Roman army, a network of roads and rebuilt most of the Roman city.
Claudius- Claudius conquered a few new areas for the Romans. Claudius built many roads, canals and aqueducts.
Trajan- Trajan ruled Rome at the age of 19. During his time of being the ruler, he conqured many lands with many riches. He was alos an ambitious builder, constructing many buildings through Rome.
Marcus Aurelius- Not only was Marcus an emperor, he is or was considered as one of historys Philiosopher. Marucs was also considered one of the last 5 good emperors.
Diocletian- This guy could have been a good and bad emperor at the same time. While the Roman empire was growing, Diocletian decided to spilt the Roman Empire into 2 sections: The Western Roman Empire and The Eastern Roman Empire. This made the Roman Empire harder to rule. He was also one of the worst Roman emperors when it came to human rights, persecuting and killing heaps of people, many being Christians, because of their belief or religion.
Crazy Emperors- These emperors that are listed below were some of the most craziest emperors in the Ancient Rome history. Some of hem include Nero (who was often blamed for burning down Ancient Rome) Caligula, Commodus and Domitian.
