The Roman Military- The Ancient Roman military was the biggest success in Ancient Romes history, while dominating the western parts of the world. The military started by citizen farmers turned into a professional full time Roman army. The brutal Roman army conquered all of the Mediterranean world from Mesopotamia to Scotland, until they got defeated by the wave of Barbarian troopers.They were victims of their own success having growing larger and larger. Woman were encouraged to have children so that they could support the man power needs of states. The Ancient Romans were originally a tribal which of three tribes. The Romans realized that they should be keep and effort to one step ahead from their enemies. The Ancient Romans used to wear a Galea (a helmet), greaves (to protect their legs), lorica hamata (chest armor) and some Lorica (arm guards).
Gladiators- Gladiators were slaves who fought in the Colosseum. Gladiators fought against each other or against animals. (Eg, Lions, tigers.) Gladiators were originally slaves, criminals or prisoners of wars. Gladiators got paid each time they fought. Criminals who had been found guilty went to fight with no weapons. Criminals who had done other crimes went to a special gladiator school for three years. The gladiatrs would earn their freedom after 3-5 years of fighting against animals or other gladiators. These men were fed 3 meals a day and got medical help if they needed it. Training used different weapons such as daggers, war chain, nets and lasso. They captured their opponents rather than killing them.
