Ancient Rome was founded in 753 BC, by two twins sons, Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a female wolf. During the 12th century history, Ancient Rome shifted from a monarchy to a republic and then to an empire.
Rome began in an Iron age hut village, found in the mid 8th century BC. Rome conquered most of Italy and then it turned it;s attention overseas and by the first century BC, they had conquered Spain, North Africa and Greece. As the Roman Empire expanded, the rulers got hungrier and hungrier for power.
Julius Caesar ruled for sometime as a dictator, and his nephew, Octavian, became Romes first emperor, giving himself the name Augustus. During the time of Augustus, Christ was born. And even though Christians were persecuted for their belief until the 4th century, the new belief took place and many people believed in Christianity. During the Middle Ages, Rome went into decline. The city recovered marvelously in the mid-15th century and for over 200 years Rome had many great artists that decorate the city.
